Mommie Dearest

by Christina Crawford

This is a fairly hard to find early edition of Christina Crawford's memoir, Mommie Dearest, first published by William Morrow and Co in 1978. This vintage hardback edition with dust jacket was published by Grenada one year later, in 1979. It is in very good condition both inside and out, with no rips, tears, annotations or other markings. The dust jacket has very slight edge wear and the remnants of a price sticker on the front, just visible in the photos. There is a 16 page photo section with images of Joan and family selected from Christina's scrapbook, compiled over many years by Joan herself. They cover a period from Christina as a baby with Joan, right through to Christina as an adult with her mother at a charity telethon.

All in all, this is a great copy of a quite harrowing tale: Christina alleges that her adoptive mother, the very famous movie star, Joan Crawford, was at the very least more interested in her career than in her adopted children, and at worst, that she was a perpetrator of serious child abuse and mentally very unstable.

The film Mommie Dearest starring Faye Dunaway as Joan ws released in 1989, and though Crawford's fans and supporters are legion, Christina's allegations seem to have carved a place deeply into the public imagination. I know you remember the scenes, now its time to read the original words and judge for yourself!
