Daddy-Long_Legs

by Jean Webster with the illustrations of Edward Ardizzone

Published by Brockhampton Press, London, 1966.  Scarce edition  with dust jacket in good condition. Collectible.

This 1966 Brockhampton Press edition of Daddy-Long-Legs is a notable illustrated version of Jean Webster's novel, which was first published in 1912. This edition features the illustrations of  British artist, Edward Ardizzone and was produced as a hardcover presentation book with dust jacket, which was also designed by Ardizzone.  As in the original publication, this edition also includes Webster's own pen and ink sketches to accompany the text: the book is written in an epistolery style with letters that include doodles and other charming visual elements.

This edition is especially sought after by collectors, as the Ardizzonne illustrations enhance the format of the novel, capturing the warmth and humour of Judy Abbott's letters and add greatly to its appeal. The artistic value of this edition, along with the novel's nostalgic significance as a vintage children's classic,  continue to make it a sought-after item for both collectors and younger readers.

This book is in good to very good condition, both inside and out. The dust jacket has minor wear around the edges but there are no rips, tears or other flaws.  The interior is clean and unmarked, with no annotations or other markings. There is a presentation bookplate loosely affixed to the flyleaf, adding to the book's vintage charm.

This book is an ideal gift for fans of vintage children's literature or anyone seeking a beautifully illustrated classic for their collection.
