Crime and Punishment
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Published by The Folio Society, 1957. First edition thus.
Translated by Constance Garnett. Illustrated with lithographs by van Rossem.
Red linen illustrated boards with original dust jacket as issued repeating the cover design by van Rossen. Sprayed red top edges in bright, excellent condition. Text block edges are slightly foxed - see pics - but otherwise condition both inside and out is very good. There are no annotations, markings, creases or tears and the binding is firm.
This 1957 edition is quite early days for The Folio Society, which was founded just 10 years before in 1947, and as such the production values of this book are high. The paper is rich and creamy, the typeface is elegant, the book falls open as it is meant to do
and the lithographs are stunning.
This edition of Crime and Punishment is the Folio Society's 101st publication.
